ILT celebrates Christmas with the city’s over 70’s

Earlier this month, the Ascot Park Hotel was filled with festive cheer as ILT hosted the two nights of Christmas dinners for Invercargill residents aged over 70.

The highly anticipated dinners treat 700 guests to a delicious three-course meal, great company, and entertainment. Adding a special touch this year were performances from New River Primary School’s Ukelele group and members of Invercargill Musical Theatre. Crowd favourite Margaret Bates once again delighted guests with her keyboard skills.

ILT board members and staff volunteer their time to serve guests. ILT President Paddy O’Brien shared the board’s enthusiasm for the evening.

“The board and staff look forward to this event every year, it really is a highlight for us,” he said.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with this part of the community and recognise the ongoing contribution they make to our city,” added Mr O’Brien.

ILT Chief Executive Chris Ramsay echoed these sentiments, saying, “We are thrilled to host the Christmas dinners again this year. It is a fun occasion for both our guests and our volunteers.”

“With the rising cost of living, this year’s event feels even more special. We are pleased to offer our guests a wonderful night out – all at no cost to them,” Ramsay said.

Every year, ILT invites Invercargill residents over 70 years old to apply for a place at the Christmas dinner, with attendees selected through a random draw. Since its inception in 1993, this beloved tradition has seen ILT serve over 25,000 meals, spreading joy and making memories.
